Superdome

Home of the New Orleans Saints, the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic, Tulane University Green Wave Football, the Bayou Classic and the Sugar Bowl Prep Classic, the Superdome is recognized as a titan among sporting venues. The stadium covers 13 acres and reaches 27 stories at its peak, 273 feet above street level. The Dome covers the world's largest steel-constructed room unobstructed by posts, encompassing 125 cubic feet of space.

A Stadium Apart

The Superdome is a domed stadium that is located in New Orleans, LA and is the home of the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League and the Tulane University football team. The Superdome cost $134 million to build and was opened in 1975. It can currently hold over 76000 people for any football game. It size and location makes it one of the most popular locations of the Super Bowl. The stadium has already held 6 different Super Bowls and will have another one in 2013. College basketball and football championship games are also regularly played in the Louisiana Superdome. After the 2012 season, the Superdome will have hosted 4 NCAA football championship games and 5 NCAA basketball championship games. The Superdome was closed for over 1 year after Hurricane Katrina tore off part of its roof. It was reopened in September of 2006 for a Saints and Atlanta Falcons football game.

The main attraction located near the Superdome would have to be the French Quarter. The French Quarter is the home of the majority of the great tourist attractions in New Orleans. Bourbon Street is home to a lot of great bars and clubs that all have great live music playing all year round. There is very little action on Bourbon Street during the day, but at night it is filled with music and people looking to have a good time.

If you do not care for the bar scene then there are also some great historical locations near the Superdome. The National World War II Museum and The Historic New Orleans Collection museum both display historic artifacts of the area and the country. Jackson Square is a historic park that is located near the Superdome in the French Quarter. Along with the beautiful park, local music and art are also on display all year round in Jackson Square. Jackson Square was even the home of the New Orleans Saints Superbowl celebration party in 2010. These are just a few of the local attractions, there are many more great museums and cathedrals to visit in the area.
